New Baptist Temple
Real people with Real Problems Serving a Real God

The Baptist Temple is the oldest and 1st actual Baptist Church in all of Brooklyn. It was founded in 1823 and had it's 1st home on Pearl St. due to the growth of the church a second campus was established on Pierrepont Street. In 1873 under the name First Baptist Church of Pierrepont Street both campuses were united and in 1894 a new building was built at 360 Schermerhorn Street where the church relocated and still holds services today.

In 2004 a new Church "The Brooklyn Lighthouse" and The Baptist Temple fused together and gave birth to The New Baptist Temple. This Fusion was lead by Church Planter, Pastor Edwin Colon and a transitional team made up of leaders from both Churches. The Transitional team met weekly to pray, plan and pursue the Vision that Christ Jesus had for the new Church.

The New Baptist Temple (N.B.T.) opened a Soup Kitchen, ran a Food Pantry, began reaching the community once again for Christ and was reaching men and women whose lives were being ravaged by active addiction as well as men and women who were in the 12 Step Recovery Process.

Music Concerts, BBQ's, Block Parties, Vacation Bible School for Children, Clothes Drives, Alcohol and Drug Detox and rehabilitation referrals were made, Youth Drug and Gang awareness events were held and many other ministries went out to the Community as a result of the birth of The New Baptist Temple and partnerships with Churches such as First Baptist Church of Peekskill, Canandaigua Baptist Church, Rocky Knowll Baptist Church, New Providence Baptist Church and many others.

With the Leadership of Pastor Edwin Colon and the team there at NBT, drug addicts who could not get free from drug and alcohol addiction are now living the Abundant Life promised by Christ. Men and women who were able to get clean via a 12 Step program but still were far from God were introduced to the Lord Jesus Christ and were able to experience the freedom and peace that only Christ can give and not just mere abstinence.
