Same Kind of Different as Me tells the unlikely true story of the unlikeliest of friends, Denver Moore, Ron Hall and Hall’s faith-filled wife Deborah who, under God’s guidance, brought them together. Denver Moore had a rough life growing up dirt poor in rural Louisiana. He was a sharecropper who scraped out a meager existence not very different from those of his ancestors in the days of slavery. Ron Hall was a self-made millionaire who was more concerned with investing in art and wealth than in people until his wife Deborah convinced him that they had a calling from God to serve the poor. Prompted by Deborah’s faith and persistence Ron reluctantly reached out to Denver and what started out as volunteer work at a Fort Worth homeless shelter gradually developed into what would become an amazing life-changing friendship between the Halls and Denver Moore.

Same Kind of Different as Me alternates between Ron Hall and Denver Moore’s stories and are told in their own voice. The book is excellently written in simple yet effective prose. It crosses social and economic barriers and as a result of its honesty, is refreshing and truly inspirational. Yet, what makes this book truly amazing is witnessing what happened when a Godly woman prayed and obeyed the voice of God. It demonstrates God’s love for us and the manifestations of that love in the lives of real people going through real situations without being preachy. Same Kind of Different as Me may make some readers laugh it will very likely make some cry but it will also remind you that God chooses to move and work in and through people. All that He requires is a humble and willing vessel.
