William P. Young

Description

William P. Young’s The Shack has become a runaway bestseller, topping The New York Times Bestsellers List and changing lives. The Shack tells the unusual story of Mackenzie Philips, a man who when faced with unbelievable tragedy, finds the courage to confront his deepest fears and trust in things he does not yet understand. In his brokenness Mack spends an unforgettable weekend in the presence of God where he candidly explores humanities toughest questions and comes face-to-face with the very heart of the Father.

When Mackenzie’s youngest daughter Missy is abducted on a family vacation, Mack struggles to deal with the loss of his child, his guilt, and his relationship with God. When he receives a mysterious invitation from God to return to the scene of Missy’s abduction, Mack reluctantly accepts and it is there, at the shack, that the author takes Mack and the reader into a fascinating and thought provoking encounter with God. Young presents a picture of a God who is tender, compassionate and unrelenting in His love for us. The complexities of the Trinity and mans place in the Universe is explained in emotional, yet digestible ways, and the reader comes away with an original and colorfully vivid portrayal of the Creator. The Shack has received some criticism for its intimate, and at times, provocative portrayal of God. Yet despite challenging traditional images of God and the Trinity, the unfailing message of The Shack is that God loves us deeply and desires more than anything to have a personal relationship with each of us.

Review

If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to read it, I suggest you make it a priority on your reading list. At times heartbreaking, at times humorous and at times controversial, The Shack will change how you think about God and enhance your spiritual walk with Him. It will also challenge your concepts of good and evil and their place in God’s design.
